Design Notes
My goal with Soul Mates was to tell a heartwarming story in a deathly setting.
It’s common for young adults to stress over finding “the one" before it's too late. In Soul Mates, however, we've aimed to alleviate that pressure through a lighthearted, humorous, and comforting narrative. In this game, your soul mate waits for you on the other side.
The team and I enjoyed constructing an original, reimagined afterlife. I helped design the setting as a dimension where each new resident is sent to a specific resort depending on what their soul lacked during life. The player character has been assigned to Honeywood - a place for hopeless romantics who never found "the one". Here in Honeywood, the grim reaper acts as the resort's manager and a matchmaker for lonely souls.
It was important for us to represent all sorts of people and their unique perspectives, so we created a diverse cast of suitors from various backgrounds and time periods.
